About Limbo
Limbo is a word, and in our case a name that describes, or sums up how many artists, or artist communities feel, working out on a limb or on the edge, pushing the acceptable or known boundaries, bending over backwards to pass under seemingly impossible obstacles or balanced perilously between art heaven and corporate hell*. Artists must often work in Limbo, and this is where we take our name. In 2002 Limbo was formed as an informal grouping of artists, initially negotiating with Seeboard Power Networks (now EDF Energy) to take over a disused electric-substation off Margate High Street to create an artist-led gallery/project space and studios, both as a resource for local artists and to bring artists from outside Thanet to the area. |

In 2003 Limbo took on the lease at the substation and became a limited company. Limbo comprises of a board of directors, a studio membership, an associate membership and a curatorial team. The rest is history. |
